The Cardiovascular Health Education Center (CHEC) at New York-Presbyterian Hospital /Columbia University Medical Center is a heart focused resource center for patients, family members and staff. CHEC's goal is to be the coordinating program for all cardiovascular education. The CHEC centers are located in the cardiac cath lab, and on all three cardiac patient care units. It takes a multidisciplinary approach to providing disease prevention materials as well as offering daily classes to in-patients to better understand their current condition, and providing tools to take steps towards decreasing their risk factors. CHEC provides access to experts in smoking cessation, food and nutrition counseling, cardiac rehab, and other specialties within the organization.
