Victor B. Penchaszadeh, MD, MSc is Director of the World Health Organization's Collaborating Center in Community Genetics and Education and a member of the WHO's Working Group on Ethical, Legal and Social Issues in Genetics. He is a member of the Ethical Legal and Social Issues Review Panel of the Human Genome Research Institute of NIH, and an advisor to the Pan American Health Organization and sits in PAHO's Advisory Council of Health Research and Advisory Council of the Bioethics Regional Program. Dr. Penchaszadeh is interested in issues of health and human rights in Latin America, including the genetic identification and restitution of children abducted by the military dictatorship in Argentina and violations of medical neutrality in Mexico. He is currently on the Board of Directors of the Genetic Alliance, the advocate organization of parents and patients with genetic disorders.

Dr. Penchaszadeh’s main academic interests are in the field of public health genetics; the interface of genetics, health and human rights; the ethical, legal and social issues of genetics; the ethics of genetics research; and health equity.
