Carol Levine, MA, directs the Families and Health Care Project and The Orphan Project: Families and Children in the HIV Epidemic, which she founded in 1991. For 12 years she was on the staff of the Hastings Center as editor of the Hastings Center Report and managing editor of IRB: A Review of Human Subjects Research. She also directed The Hastings Center's work in research ethics. In 1993 she was awarded a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship for her work in AIDS policy and ethics. She received an MA in Public Law and Government from the Columbia University Graduate Faculties and has authored or edited several books and articles in the fields of medical ethics, research ethics, AIDS, and health policy. She has been a consultant on research ethics for many organizations, including the World Health Organization.
