Annetine Gelijns, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Surgical Sciences and Public Health at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Co-director of the International Center for Health Outcomes and Innovation Research (InCHOIR). Her research interests center on the factors shaping medical innovations, clinical trial design, patient safety, and the economics of medical technology. She has received the following awards; the Querido Award for the most promising young investigator in public health, the National Foundation for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, The Hague, Netherlands, 1987-1990; International Fellowship, Council on Health Care Technology, Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences, Washington, DC, 1987-1990; and the Investigator Award in Health Policy Research, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 1994-1996.
