Lynn P. Freedman, JD, MPH is Director of the Law & Policy Project and an Associate Professor of Clinical Public Health at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. She brings to the project a background in law and nearly a decade of experience as a practicing attorney in New York City. After completing graduate training in public health in 1990, she joined the faculty at Columbia University. As Director of the Law & Policy Project, Prof. Freedman works extensively with women’s groups and human rights Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) internationally. She has published extensively on issues of health and human rights, with a particular focus on gender and women’s health. In 1999, Prof. Freedman joined the Mailman School of Public Health’s “Averting Maternal Death and Disability” (AMDD) project to lead the project’s effort to integrate human rights concepts into the maternal mortality programs.
