As part of the 4th year elective series for students at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Ruth Fischbach, along with a group of expert faculty from Columbia University Medical Center, leads an intensive one month course on biomedical ethics. Students present individual papers and lead the class with a faculty advisor in a discussion of current and contentious issues facing contemporary physicians and patients. Past topics have included Professionalism in Medicine, Organ Transplantation, Clinical Trials and the Pharmaceutical Industry, Medical Errors, End-of-life issues, Health Disparities, Patient Autonomy, Boundary Violations, issues in Reproductive Technologies, Stem Cell and Cloning Research, and Genetics. |
