Columbia University Medical Center is a world leader in solid organ transplantation.  The Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation is one of the busiest in the country (with ~120-150 adult and pediatric liver transplants per year).  Columbia University Medical Center has also one of the largest kidney transplant program with 220-250 kidney transplants per year.  We also provide anesthetic care for pancreas and pediatric small intestine transplantation.  Transplantation anesthesiology experience gives the residents opportunity to provide care for some of the most critically ill patients presenting to the operating room.  CA2 and CA3 residents are provided with ample opportunity to master invasive procedural skills and clinical management of critically ill patients. 

We also provide a 1 or 2 year combined clinical and research fellowship training (Liver transplantation/major vascular) for those individuals interested in an academic career.  The fellowship emphasizes comprehensive training in perioperative care of patients undergoing liver transplantation as well as major vascular surgical procedures.
