In January
of 1997 Wayne went to see a neurologist at Columbia, having been referred
by his primary physician. In a relatively short time, it became clear
that Wayne had ALS. He was referred to Dr. Lewis Rowland and the ALS
Center sometime in the early spring of 1997.
During
the next few months we attended the ALS support group. From the
lectures at the support groups -- and also from individual conversations
with professionals at the Center -- we received much valuable information
about ALS and living with it. Indeed, looking back, it is difficult
to see how we would have survived without this help as the Center's
resources have been invaluable.
