Successful organ transplantation depends on both preventing immune cells from the transplant recipient from rejecting the graft and blocking immune cells from the graft from attacking the host. In "Bidirectional intragraft alloreactivity drives the repopulation of human intestinal allografts and correlates with clinical outcome", Dr. Julien Zuber et al. demonstrate that a balance in this two-way alloreactivity affects clinical outcomes in human intestinal allograft recipients.
