Waichi Wong, MD

Dr. Wong obtained her Bachelors of Science in the field of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University and her medical degree at the Yale University School of Medicine. Subsequently, she completed a residency in Primary Care at Yale-New Haven Hospital and a Nephrology fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) at Harvard Medical School (HMS). At MGH she was promoted to Assistant Physician in the Division of Nephrology and Transplantation; at HMS she served as an Instructor in Medicine. While at MGH, she initiated several projects to explore the mechanisms involved in chronic humoral rejection in kidney transplant recipients. She was also involved in the first successful tolerance protocol for kidney transplant recipients in which patients did not require any long-term immunosuppressive medications. Further, at the MGH Transplant Center she successfully co-directed the development of a Human Tissue Repository, and this repository has served as a model for the one we have now established as a Core facility in the CCTI. Her work has appeared in several peer-reviewed journals.
