Of Note:

The College of Physicians & Surgeons is the workplace for two recipients of the Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology: Eric Kandel, M.D., who shared the 2000 Nobel Prize, and Richard Axel, who shared the 2004 Nobel Prize.

The School of Nursing offers the nation’s first clinical doctoral program, the DrNP. The school educates nurses for the highest level of clinical expertise, including sophisticated diagnostic and treatment competencies.

The Mailman School of Public Health is ranked No. 4 among public health schools receiving funding from the National Institutes of Health as of 2004, the latest year for which data are available.

The College of Dental Medicine delivers to residents of Northern Manhattan, a federally designated medical and dental manpower shortage area, an exceptional scope of primary care services tailored to the needs of underserved patients. Outreach includes dental programs in seven area public schools, a dental van, and three off-site community-based dental clinics.

New York-Presbyterian Hospital is the primary hospital affiliated with Columbia University Medical Center. Columbia is also affiliated with the New York State Psychiatric Institute, which is operated by the New York State Office of Mental Health. The Institute’s scientists constitute the core of the Department of Psychiatry at P&S. Together, Columbia, New York- Presbyterian, and the Psychiatric Institute collaborate to deliver the highest quality health care in the New York City metropolitan region.
